Fathers Day

We had a lovely Fathers' Day on Sunday. We gave Matt his presents (new toolbox containing lots of American peanut-buttery chocolates... Oh Henry!, 5th Avenue, Butterfingers, Reece's pieces and a bunch more I can't remember. Plus stuff Bella made at daycare). Then we headed off to my Dad's house where my Dad met us in the driveway in his Superman pjs, haha. We gained three more goldfish from his giant fishpond and met his new housemate, Bill. Then we went to Matt's dad's house. Then back home in time for Matt to watch the Sydney Swans game at noon. Then lunch, a dvd (hot tub timemachine... lame but kinda funny), then vietnamese rice paper rolls for dinner and a chocolate cake that Bella and I made.

While the dvd was on I cut out a bunch of bunting and made four metres of double fold bias binding by hand. Then on Monday I stitched it all together and bought hooks to hang it in the playroom. I think it looks good. Please excuse the grainy mobile-phone picture.

Last night I made roast lamb for dinner with gravy, roasted veggies (nadine and rubylou potatoes, carrot, onion, butternut pumpkin), peas and broccoflower. There was enough that I sent Matt to work with leftovers (and leftover choccy cake). I'd never tried broccoflower before. Actually there's a lot of things I haven't tried but I want to. A kind of foody bucket list.

Foody bucketlist
dragonfruit
truffles
macaroons
churros
broccoflower
artichokes
fennel
celeriac
custard apple
baking bread by hand
making custard from scratch
tempeh
making moulding chocolate
making marshmallow fondant
making burfi

I'll have to work on those over the next few months!

  1. There's a custard apple tree at our old place. I'll have to check next time I'm up there if they're ripe (or over-ripe and rotting!). I don't like it, too sweet, but I've used it to good effect in smoothies and made 'ice cream' with it.
