Challenge #6: Market stall
On Sunday 6th March 2011 I ran my first ever market stall. Proof below:
It was the inaugural markets for Treasure Hunt Market Place and it was fun but quiet.
I was a little unsure on what to take but everything turned out ok. I took my stock and display, money (divided into different coin denominations), pens, notebook, stickytape, drink bottle and snacks (although Vanessa and Wayne who run THMP were kind enough to supply all stallholders with bottles of water) and my phone which acted as clock, calculator and FB-access once my stall was set up but the markets weren't open yet ;o)
Probably the two best things I did were:
1) to grab my notebook the night before and write down all the products I was taking and their prices. That meant I didn't have to turn the price signs around or remember prices and it also meant I could just keep a tally next to eac product of what I sold (I listed not only the type of product, but also the different colours etc) so I knew what needed replacing and what sold well.
2) leaving early in the morning, earlier than I had to.
Probably the two worst things I did were:
1) I didn't take anyone with me which meant I didn't get a chance to browse the other stalls (although as soon as the markets closed I dashed over to Clips For My Girls to buy some of their fantastic baby clips!!) or take five minutes to relax.
2) I decided I didn't need to look up the address before I left, nor check that the map book was in the car. Beach Rd and Whitfords Ave are *not* the same road. Lucky I left early!!!
