Essentially the GDUNH is an online scavenger hunt running for one month. Businesses (not just nappy businesses- chocolate, jewellery, lotions, clothing, craft etc) hide a clickable icon somewhere on their website and hunters are given a list of these businesses and set about finding the icons. The fun part is, most businesses set up a mini-hunt- a series a clues or challenges to guide the hunters towards the icon on their page. Once the hunter finds the icon, they register their find by entering their email address into the little box that pops up when you click on the icon. In this way I guess it's actually more like orienteering than a scavenger hunt.
The GDUNH keeps track of all the finds attributed to your email address and once you reach certain numbers, automatically enters you into different prize level drawings. Now, the email address you use MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE HUNT. That means re-registering for each hunt (two a year). The good news is that registration is free and also provides you with a discount code to use at the businesses who are offering an exclusive discount to hunters.
The other thing that the businesses offer are PRIZES. The hunt is free and fun and that would be enough for most people BUT there are also tonnes of prizes on offer- at least one from every business involved with the hunt. Most of these are distributed by way of the different levels of prize draws but there are also daily prizes (if you find an icon that day, you go into that day's draw), prizes for filling out the post-hunt survey and also for being the first to find the icon of the day.
As you can probably guess, the hunt is EXTREMELY popular with hunters and sponsors (the businesses) alike. Slots for sponsors fill months before the hunt. So there are a few changes this year. One is the icon-of-the-day. For the week-ish leading up to the hunt one business a day is the sponsor-of-the-day and they hide a special icon on their page. The first person to find the icon wins a prize from that business. This provides that business with a chance to stand out from the hundreds of other businesses involved and gives hunters a chance to warm up for the hunt--- and, yes, more chances to win prizes!
Another new feature is the no-icon sponsor which means the business doesn't hide an icon or run a mini-hunt, they simply donate a prize, perhaps offer a discount and get their name in the list of sponsors. This means more businesses can be involved and more prizes donated even once the hunt slots are filled, without the hunt getting too large.
The prizes donated by SpottyOwlDesign are a cloth nappy playset and a balloon ball.
